UNILAG Cut Off Mark 2023/2024
Written by Bola Ayowumi

The announcement of the UNILAG Cut Off Mark for the 2023/2024 academic year has left many potential applicants feeling a mixture of emotions. For some, there may be excitement and anticipation at the prospect of gaining admission to this prestigious institution.

Others may be feeling anxious and worried about meeting the required cutoff score. And for a few, there may be disappointment and frustration if they find that they do not meet the mark. Regardless of the emotions experienced, the UNILAG Cut-Off Mark announcement is a significant moment for many aspiring students, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their academic journey.

Greetings Folks! We are here for another episode of my “Admission Guide Series“. Today, we will discuss the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Departmental and JAMB Cut-off marks for admission in 2023. Additionally, you will be informed about the procedure to calculate your aggregate points and determine your position in the admission process.

Gaining admission to any Nigerian university is a challenging process, as millions of students apply to various Federal, State, and Private Universities across the country each year.

Unfortunately, only a fraction of these applicants – approximately 500,000 – will be granted admission for further studies (although this number is debatable). This leaves the majority of the students without admission, forcing them to stay at home and prepare for the next JAMB. It’s quite ironic, isn’t it?.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is responsible for conducting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which serves as a prerequisite for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. One such institution is the University of Lagos (UNILAG), which is a popular and prestigious university in Nigeria.

Every year, JAMB sets a minimum cut-off mark which serves as a benchmark for candidates who wish to participate in the Post UTME screening exercise of the institution.

This cut-off mark is usually released before the screening exercise commences and it varies from year to year. It is important to note that meeting the JAMB cut-off mark does not guarantee admission into UNILAG, as candidates still have to undergo the Post UTME screening exercise and meet the departmental cut-off mark.

The departmental cut-off mark is the minimum score required by candidates in each department of the institution in order to be considered for admission.

This cut-off mark is usually higher than the JAMB cut-off mark and it is determined by the institution based on factors such as the number of available spaces in the department, the number of qualified candidates, and the general performance of candidates in the screening exercise.

It is important to note that the departmental cut-off mark for UNILAG for the year 2023 has not been released yet as the screening exercise has not been conducted.

However, the departmental cut-off mark for the previous year (2022) can serve as a guide for candidates to know what to expect. It is also important to note that the departmental cut-off mark may vary from year to year depending on the aforementioned factors.

While the JAMB cut-off mark is important, it is not enough to guarantee admission into UNILAG. Candidates should also aim to score high in the Post UTME screening exercise and meet the departmental cut-off mark for their chosen course of study.

UNILAG Departmental Cut-Off Mark For All Courses

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is one of the top-ranked universities in Nigeria. It offers a wide range of courses in various faculties, including Arts, Law, Science, Social Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Education.

The Departmental Cut Off Mark for all courses at UNILAG is the minimum score required for a candidate to be considered for admission into a particular department or faculty.

The cut-off marks are determined by the university management and vary from year to year depending on factors such as the number of applicants, the available spaces, and the performance of candidates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and post-UTME screening.

To be eligible for admission into UNILAG, candidates must meet the minimum UTME score of 200 and also score at least the departmental cut-off mark for their chosen course. The cut-off marks are usually published on the university’s website and can also be obtained from the respective faculties and departments.

It is important to note that meeting the departmental cut-off mark does not guarantee automatic admission into UNILAG. Other factors such as the candidate’s O’Level results, post-UTME score, and availability of spaces in the department or faculty also play a significant role in the admission process.

How To Calculate UNILAG Aggregate/Screening Score

It is important for every candidate who took part in the University of Lagos Post UTME/Screening to be able to calculate their aggregate score for verification purposes. To compute your screening score, follow these easy steps:

Firstly, divide your JAMB score by 8. Next, divide your Post UTME score by 2. Then, add the results of the two divisions together. For instance, if you scored 200 in JAMB and 80 in Post UTME, your aggregate score would be:

200/8 = 25 80/2 = 40 Therefore, your total score would be 25 + 40 = 65.

Conclusion:

It is important to note that the UNILAG Cut Off Mark for the 2023/2024 academic session has not yet been officially released by the university management. However, candidates should aim to score as high as possible in their JAMB and Post UTME exams in order to increase their chances of meeting the cut off mark and gaining admission into this prestigious institution.
