JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) Change of Course and Institution is a service provided by JAMB to allow candidates who have already applied for admission into a tertiary institution in Nigeria to change the course or institution they selected during their initial application.

This service is usually necessary when a candidate is not admitted into their desired course or institution due to various reasons such as a low JAMB score, insufficient admission quota in the chosen institution, or the candidate’s inability to meet the admission requirements for the selected course or institution.

To process the JAMB Change of Course and Institution, candidates are required to purchase the JAMB Change of Course and Institution scratch card from any JAMB office or an authorized vendor. After obtaining the scratch card, candidates can proceed to the JAMB portal to effect the change of course or institution by following the steps provided on the portal.

It is important to note that the JAMB Change of Course and Institution is only available within a specified period, usually announced by JAMB on its official website. Who should use the JAMB change of course and institution portal?

The JAMB change of course and institution portal is intended for candidates who have already registered for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and have chosen a particular course of study and/or institution but wish to make changes to either or both of their choices.

This portal is designed to allow candidates to make changes to their preferred course or institution before the UTME results are released or before the Post-UTME screening exercise. Therefore, candidates who wish to change their course or institution after the UTME results have been released or after the Post-UTME screening exercise should contact the institution’s admission office directly.

Apart from making corrections to your personal details (Name, Date of Birth, Gender, and State/LGA of Origin), the following people need to change their course and institution

  • If you have a low JAMB score for the institution you choose. For example, if you choose one of the competitive universities like OAU, UI, UNIBEN, UNILAG, or UNN and you score less than 200, it is time you consider changing your institution to a less competitive University.
  • Those that made mistakes in the choice of course or institution when filling JAMB form If you choose one of the competitive courses like Medicine, Law, Elect/elect, Economics, computer science, etc. and you score below 200 or a little above 200 (from 200 to 205), you should consider changing your course to less competitive course

Note:

It is important to note that the decision to change your institution or course should not be made hastily. It is advisable to seek guidance from educational professionals, such as school counselors or admission officers, before making any decisions. These professionals can provide valuable insight and help you make an informed decision.

If you do decide to change your institution or course, you will need to do so during the JAMB change of course/institution exercise. This exercise usually takes place after the release of the JAMB results, and you will need to follow the guidelines and procedures provided by JAMB.

It is also important to have alternative options in mind, such as other universities or courses that may be a good fit for your abilities and interests. By being flexible and open-minded, you can still achieve your educational goals even if your initial plans don’t work out as expected.
